Human adenovirus C is a type of adenovirus that can cause a range of illnesses in humans, including respiratory infections, conjunctivitis, and gastroenteritis. Some adenovirus C strains can also cause more serious illnesses, such as meningitis or pneumonia. The virus spreads through close contact with an infected person or through contact with contaminated surfaces. There is no specific cure for adenovirus infections, but symptoms can be managed with rest, hydration, and over-the-counter medications. Like all adenoviruses, human adenovirus C can infect a wide range of host cells and cause a variety of symptoms depending on the host’s age, immune status, and the specific strain of the virus.

Adenovirus C antigen includes a substance produced by a human adenovirus C infection that can be detected in a laboratory test. The presence of adenovirus C antigens indicates that a person is infected with the virus. Antigen tests are commonly used to diagnose adenovirus infections, as well as to monitor the progression of the infection and to determine whether a patient is no longer contagious. These tests work by detecting proteins on the surface of the virus, and they are generally quick, simple, and highly accurate. In the case of human adenovirus C, the specific antigen used in the test will depend on the specific strain of the virus that is causing the infection.

Proteins Associated with Human Adenovirus C:

E1B 55K protein:

The E1B 55K protein is a 55-kDa protein that plays a crucial role in the virus’s replication process. It helps the virus evade the host’s immune response and promotes the virus’s replication by inhibiting apoptosis, a programmed cell death mechanism. The E1B 55K protein also interacts with other viral proteins, such as E4orf6, to regulate the viral lifecycle.

Early E2A DNA-binding protein:

The Early E2A DNA-binding protein is a 32-kDa protein that plays a critical role in the virus’s replication process. It binds to the virus’s DNA to initiate the replication process and regulates the expression of other viral genes.

Maturation protein:

The Maturation protein is a 14.9-kDa protein that plays a critical role in the virus’s maturation process. It helps assemble the virus particles and package the viral DNA into the capsid.

PVIII protein:

The PVIII protein is a 12-kDa protein that forms the outer capsid of the virus. It helps protect the viral DNA from the host’s immune response and facilitates the virus’s entry into the host cell.

L4 protein VIII:

The L4 protein VIII is a 21-kDa protein that plays a critical role in the virus’s assembly process. It helps form the viral capsid and package the viral DNA.

19K glycoprotein:

The 19K glycoprotein is a glycoprotein that helps the virus attach to the host cell surface and enter the host cell.

Major core protein pVII:

The Major core protein pVII is a 14.5-kDa protein that forms the inner core of the virus. It helps protect the viral DNA from the host’s immune response and plays a critical role in the virus’s assembly process.

Early E3B 10.4 kDa protein:

The Early E3B 10.4 kDa protein is a 10.4-kDa protein that helps the virus evade the host’s immune response by inhibiting the presentation of viral antigens on the host cell surface.

Early E3 18.5 kDa glycoprotein:

The Early E3 18.5 kDa glycoprotein is an 18.5-kDa glycoprotein that helps the virus attach to the host cell surface and enter the host cell.

Early E3B 10.4 kDa protein:
The Early E3B 10.4 kDa protein is encoded by the adenovirus E3B region, which is responsible for the production of several proteins during the viral replication cycle. The E3B 10.4 kDa protein is a small, non-structural protein that plays a role in preventing the host cell from recognizing and destroying the virus. This protein is thought to contribute to immune evasion by blocking the interferon response and preventing apoptosis.

Early E3 18.5 kDa glycoprotein:
The Early E3 18.5 kDa glycoprotein is another protein encoded by the adenovirus E3 region. This protein is a glycoprotein, meaning it has a sugar molecule attached to it. The E3 18.5 kDa protein is believed to be involved in viral release from the infected cell and immune evasion by inhibiting the complement system. The complement system is part of the immune response and helps to destroy foreign cells or viruses.

E4 11 kDa protein:
The E4 11 kDa protein is another non-structural protein encoded by the adenovirus E4 region. This protein is thought to play a role in viral DNA replication and the regulation of the viral life cycle. The E4 11 kDa protein has also been shown to be involved in the suppression of host cell gene expression, which may contribute to immune evasion by the virus.

33 kDa phosphoprotein:
The 33 kDa phosphoprotein is a structural protein of the adenovirus capsid. It is a phosphoprotein, meaning it has a phosphate group attached to it. The 33 kDa phosphoprotein is believed to play a role in viral entry into host cells and the uncoating of the virus within the cell. It has also been shown to be involved in the regulation of viral gene expression.

Early E3B 14.6 kDa protein:
The Early E3B 14.6 kDa protein is another non-structural protein encoded by the adenovirus E3B region. This protein is thought to play a role in immune evasion by inhibiting the interferon response and preventing apoptosis in the infected cell. The E3B 14.6 kDa protein has also been shown to interact with host cell proteins involved in immune recognition and regulation.

E1A 32 kDa protein:
The E1A 32 kDa protein is a non-structural protein encoded by the adenovirus E1A region. This protein plays a key role in the regulation of viral gene expression and the progression of the viral replication cycle. The E1A 32 kDa protein has also been shown to interact with host cell proteins involved in cell cycle regulation and DNA repair.

E3B 10.4 kDa protein:
The E3B 10.4 kDa protein is a non-structural protein encoded by the adenovirus E3B region. This protein is thought to play a role in immune evasion by inhibiting the interferon response and preventing apoptosis in the infected cell. The E3B 10.4 kDa protein has also been shown to interact with host cell proteins involved in immune recognition and regulation.

E3 14.5 kDa protein:
The E3 14.5 kDa protein is another non-structural protein encoded by the adenovirus E3 region. This protein is believed to play a role in the regulation of viral gene expression and the progression of the viral replication cycle. The E3 14.5 kDa protein has also been shown to be involved in the suppression of host cell gene expression, which may contribute to immune evasion by the virus.

The use of recombinant proteins/cDNA in academic research and therapeutic applications has skyrocketed. However, in heterologous expression systems, successful recombinant protein expression is dependent on a variety of factors, including codon preference, RNA secondary structure, and GC content. When compared to pre-optimization, more and more experimental results demonstrated that the expression level was dramatically increased, ranging from two to hundred times depending on the gene. Bioclone has created a proprietary technology platform that has resulted in the creation of over 6,000 artificially synthesized codon-optimized cDNA clones (cloned in E. coli expression Vector), which are ready for production of the recombinant proteins.
