Fasciola gigantica is a parasitic flatworm that infects the liver of humans and livestock, causing a disease known as fascioliasis. Fasciola gigantica is one of the largest liver flukes and can grow up to 7 cm long and 1 cm wide. This parasite is found in many countries in Asia and Africa and is becoming increasingly prevalent in other parts of the world as well.

Fasciola gigantica is known to secrete saposin-like proteins (SAPs) that play a crucial role in the parasite’s survival and virulence. In this article, we will explore the different SAPs secreted by Fasciola gigantica, including SAP-1, SAP-2, and SAP-3, and their significance.

Fasciola gigantica is a parasitic flatworm that infects the liver of humans and livestock.
The parasite secretes saposin-like proteins (SAPs) that play a crucial role in its survival and virulence.
SAP-1 is a key player in the infection process and helps the parasite evade the host’s immune system.
SAP-2 is a Fasciola gigantica-specific protein that plays an important role in the parasite’s virulence.
SAP-3 is an essential protein for Fasciola gigantica pathogenesis and has immunomodulatory properties.

The use of recombinant proteins/cDNA in academic research and therapeutic applications has skyrocketed. However, in heterologous expression systems, successful recombinant protein expression is dependent on a variety of factors, including codon preference, RNA secondary structure, and GC content. When compared to pre-optimization, more and more experimental results demonstrated that the expression level was dramatically increased, ranging from two to hundred times depending on the gene. Bioclone has created a proprietary technology platform that has resulted in the creation of over 6,000 artificially synthesized codon-optimized cDNA clones (cloned in E. coli expression Vector), which are ready for production of the recombinant proteins.

Fasciola gigantica cDNA and recombinant antigens can be used in the development of diagnostic tests for the detection of Fasciola gigantica infections. The cDNA can be used to create specific primers that can be used to detect the presence of the parasite in a sample. Recombinant antigens can be used to detect the presence of antibodies against the parasite in a sample. Both cDNA and antigens can also be used for the development of vaccines against Fasciola gigantica.
