Anaplasmosis is a significant disease that affects cattle, leading to reduced milk production, weight loss, and in severe cases, death. The disease is caused by Anaplasma bacteria, and the most commonly identified species are Anaplasmamarginale and Anaplasma centrale. Currently, there is no effective treatment available for anaplasmosis, and the best way to control the disease is through vaccination.

Anaplasma centrale is a tick-borne bacterium that can cause anaplasmosis in cattle. The major surface protein 4 (MSP4) of Anaplasma centrale is a significant target for developing a vaccine against anaplasmosis. MSP4 is known to elicit an immune response in cattle, and a protective antigen, OMA87, has been identified within MSP4. In this article, we will explore the significance of Anaplasma centrale MSP4 and OMA87 and their potential in developing an effective vaccine against anaplasmosis.

Cattle play a critical role in agriculture and the economy worldwide. As such, maintaining their health and well-being is of utmost importance. One key aspect of cattle health is understanding the role of proteins like Anaplasma centrale Major Surface Protein 4 (MSP4) and Protective Antigen OMA87 in preventing and treating disease.

Anaplasma centrale MSP4

Anaplasma centrale MSP4 is a protein found in the outer membrane of Anaplasma centrale, a bacterium that can cause anaplasmosis in cattle. MSP4 plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of anaplasmosis by aiding in the bacterium’s ability to evade the host’s immune system.

MSP4 works by binding to host cells, thereby inhibiting the host’s immune response. This allows Anaplasma centrale to avoid detection and continue to proliferate within the host’s bloodstream, leading to the development of anaplasmosis.

Protective Antigen OMA87

Another important protein in cattle health is Protective Antigen OMA87. This protein is a key component of a vaccine developed to protect against anaplasmosis in cattle. OMA87 works by triggering an immune response in the host, leading to the production of antibodies that can recognize and neutralize Anaplasma centrale.

The use of recombinant proteins/cDNA in academic research and therapeutic applications has skyrocketed. However, in heterologous expression systems, successful recombinant protein expression is dependent on a variety of factors, including codon preference, RNA secondary structure, and GC content. When compared to pre-optimization, more and more experimental results demonstrated that the expression level was dramatically increased, ranging from two to hundred times depending on the gene. Bioclone has created a proprietary technology platform that has resulted in the creation of over 6,000 artificially synthesized codon-optimized cDNA clones (cloned in E.coli expression Vector), which are ready for production of the recombinant proteins.
