Stenotrophomonas is a genus of Gram-negative bacteria that is ubiquitous in the environment and can cause a range of infections in humans, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. One of the key factors that contribute to the pathogenesis of Stenotrophomonas infections is the presence of surface antigens, which allow the bacteria to interact with host cells and evade the immune system. One such surface antigen is the Stenotrophomonas 17 kDa surface antigen, which has been shown to play a critical role in the bacterium’s pathogenicity.

The Stenotrophomonas 17 kDa surface antigen is a conserved protein that is found in various Stenotrophomonas species, including Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. It is a surface-exposed protein that is involved in bacterial adhesion and invasion, and it is thought to be a key factor in the formation of biofilms, which are communities of bacteria that are encased in a protective matrix and are notoriously difficult to treat with antibiotics.

The use of recombinant proteins/cDNA in academic research and therapeutic applications has skyrocketed. However, in heterologous expression systems, successful recombinant protein expression is dependent on a variety of factors, including codon preference, RNA secondary structure, and GC content. When compared to pre-optimization, more and more experimental results demonstrated that the expression level was dramatically increased, ranging from two to hundred times depending on the gene. Bioclone has created a proprietary technology platform that has resulted in the creation of over 6,000 artificially synthesized codon-optimized cDNA clones (cloned in E. coli expression Vector), which are ready for production of the recombinant proteins.

Stenotrophomonas cDNA and recombinant antigens can be used in a variety of applications, such as in diagnostic tests, vaccine and drug development, and food safety.

In diagnostic tests, cDNA and recombinant antigens can be used to detect the presence of Stenotrophomonas bacteria in a sample. These tests can be used to identify the species or strain of Stenotrophomonas, as well as to detect the presence of any antibiotic-resistant genes.

In vaccine and drug development, cDNA and recombinant antigens can be used to study the virulence factors, surface proteins, and other components of Stenotrophomonas. This information can then be used to develop vaccines and drugs that target specific components of the bacteria.

In food safety, cDNA and recombinant antigens can be used to detect the presence of Stenotrophomonas in food and water samples. This can help to identify any contaminated food and water sources and prevent the spread of illness caused by the bacteria.
